Early learning providers can create a “serve and return” environment in their classrooms by providing materials that are engaging and interesting to children, and that inspire curiosity and exploration. As well, it’s important that the interests of all individual children are acknowledged, as we don’t want children to be left behind. Showing interest and encouragement in trying new things and exploring (safely) is important in the development of children and increases their self esteem to try new things. If children aren’t supported in their interests, their self esteem and interest in learning will decrease and it will be harder for them to adjust to their new world.
