Each day we focus on a simple activity – like today we had a short nature walk.

It would be fun to engage parents in the mindfulness activity for the week. Sending home a paper explaining mindfulness, and having the kids practice their mindfulness activity at home and then again at school so that they can regulate and even help their parents know how to help them regulate.

I am going to create a handout for parents on mindful moments to create and have at home and why mindfulness is important for young children- easy to do and fun activities for families.

Incorporate a short gathering time once everyone has arrived, to say hello to each other and do some deep breathing exercises. Ask each child how they are feeling today.

breathing techniques work really well with my kiddos, and putting our finger on our nose when we do so.

I plan to get children and parents involved by sending home mindfulness exercises for them to practice at home and then the children can share what they like and don’t like about that particular exercise and we can give ideas on how to adjust the exercise to each child/family.

I think it would be great to do a morning activity with my class that gets their body moving and their breathing together. For example each week have 2 focuses, one a breathing activity and the other a yoga or stretching exercises. We would send this home with parents so they could follow at home in the evening for a wind down.

We post updates and pictures daily on our school website. The parents love it and can see what things their children have been doing during the day. We also post important info about the school calendar and special events, such as open house.

I would send out a monthly email with tips on how to be more mindful. for instance, breathing exercises one month, art the next, etc. These emails could include video links.
