GuestDecember 18, 2024 at 2:22 amI would share a few video links to the parents about mindfulness and some helpful resources so that they can learn about the importance of it. I would encourage parents to join us for a mindful nature walk in a park close to our school. Or I would invite them to work in our garden alongside our students on campus.

GuestDecember 23, 2024 at 5:12 amEach day we use different yoga cards that change with the seasons/holidays. They are mostly the same yoga poses with different names that fit each theme, and we also teach the correct name for the yoga pose.
-
“Great idea, Zoe! Seasonal yoga cards with themed names make mindfulness fun and engaging for kids and adults.”

GuestDecember 31, 2024 at 7:21 pmwhen my students feel sad or upset i always tell them a phrase i learned from one of my favorite movies and that is “you are kind you are smart you are important” along with a hug to make them feel better. i would like to add some yoga and deep breath methods into our schedule to keep the body calm and reassured when needed.

GuestDecember 31, 2024 at 7:33 pmI feel like some good tips and tricks would be to develop a mindfulness plan that staff and parents are aware of and agree upon that can be implemented in both spaces to promote generalization and more frequency in those behaviors. We could come up with fun and silly names or activities to do that could promote this.

GuestFebruary 5, 2025 at 6:43 pmI have a short session of meditation in my class. But we call it “ Finding Our Zen” or if it gets too loud , then we say “ We’ve lost our zen.” We sit in a circle and I play meditation music and we take deep breaths a few times. Then we get our imaginary glass bowls and move it around slowly and focusing on our breathes. And I could plan to include the parents in these sessions. So that the child sees their parents doing it as well.
-
Great idea, Alison! Making mindfulness fun with “Finding Our Zen” creates a calm environment, and involving parents reinforces these practices at home. Keep up the great work!

GuestFebruary 6, 2025 at 10:19 pmI wouldn’t mind creating a daily worksheet as part of the kids routine that had different moods (angry to happy) and have the kids pause every morning and talk about how they are feeling and even ask them for something they appreciate in their lives.
-
Ocean, I love the idea of a daily worksheet! It encourages self-awareness and appreciation, helping kids connect with their emotions. Great way to incorporate mindfulness!
