Take some time to rest, watch a movie, or play some music.

Do something that you enjoy to relieve stress. Do something that reminds you why you do this important work

Talk with peers, spend time with friends and family. Do self-care activities – get out in nature, massage, read a book, and reflect.

talk through it with trusted peers. chances are theyve felt the same thing before and that empathy can be incredibly productive.

dont forget to take space when you feel yourself disconnecting.

    -Open, friendly communication with coworkers

    -Strong self-care strategies

    -Go on a walk

    -Re-establish my “why”

There’s so many different things that someone could do, but it’s ultimately up to the individual to figure out what strategies work or don’t work for them.

Personally, if I were at work I would communicate with my coworkers because we are all human and sometimes things become overwhelming, which is completely normal. I practice breathing techniques and to combat this outside of work, I ensure that I take care of my mental health/indulge in self-care at home when possible.

I lean on my support system. Ill also move to more constant tasks that require me less emotionally or take a second to breath before continuing if I feel compassion fatigue happening.

When experiencing compassion fatigue as an early childhood learning provider, it’s crucial to prioritize self-care to prevent burnout and maintain overall well-being. Here are some strategies to consider:

    1. Recognize the Signs: Acknowledge the signs of compassion fatigue, such as feeling emotionally drained, irritable, or detached from your work.
    2. Seek Support: Talk to colleagues, supervisors, or trusted friends about your feelings. Sharing your experiences can provide emotional support and validation.
    3. Set Boundaries: Establish boundaries between work and personal life to prevent overextending yourself. Learn to say no to additional responsibilities when necessary.
    4. Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Practice self-compassionate self-talk and remind yourself that it’s okay to prioritize your well-being.
    5. Engage in Self-Care Activities: Dedicate time to activities that recharge you mentally, emotionally, and physically. This could include hobbies, exercise, mindfulness practices, or spending time with loved ones.
    6. Take Breaks: Incorporate regular breaks into your day to rest and recharge. Even short moments of relaxation can help alleviate stress and prevent burnout.
    7. Seek Professional Help: If compassion fatigue persists or becomes overwhelming, consider seeking support from a therapist or counselor who specializes in trauma and stress management.
    8. Reflect and Reevaluate: Take time to reflect on your work and identify any sources of stress or triggers for compassion fatigue. Consider making changes to your work environment or daily routines to better support your well-being.

By prioritizing self-care and seeking support when needed, early childhood learning providers can effectively manage compassion fatigue and continue to provide quality care for children and families.

I ensure that I am communicating how I am feeling to the coworkers around me while also reminding myself that the children are learning and growing and patience is vital to ensure the success of their growth even when it may feel hard.

It helps to take a step back and reflect on things that you are grateful for and deep breaths.

When I am experiencing compassion fatigue I discuss with my director or my co workers what is going on at the moment. Also, I take a break to walk around the center.

Make distinctions between self and role. Disassociate what you take in from your role as a caregiver or educator from your true self so that you can prioritize your feelings at times.
