    I think it is always best to have co-workers or people in similar field who you can share your feelings with. Talking about your stressors can greatly relieve the negative feelings and prevent build up. Similarly writing down my emotions helps me process them and not feel overwhelmed.

    I try to make sure to release that stress at the end of the day with walking meditation in the woods or playing guitar or hanging out with a friend. Something to recharge my emotional energy. In the moment I might just take some deep breaths. In the morning I practice meditation for stress reduction and it works well as long as I make sure to do it, of course

    For me it’s being sure to be intentional with self care during my personal time. Going for walks, reading a book, doing something fun and spontaneous with my family. At work making time to bond and do something positive and fun with the staff team. Focus on successes and positives.

    When I start feeling compassion fatigue, I take steps to care for myself so I can continue supporting the children. I make sure to take short breaks when possible, or quiet time. Reflecting on the positive moments with the children also helps me regain energy and perspective.

    compassion fatigue shows up for me when I am with my own children. I believe I am more at ease to let myself get upset. When this happens I take deep breaths. At times I have told my children that I need a few minutes to calm down (they are old enough to be alone for sometime).

    I would be upfront with my peers about how I’m struggling, and what they can do to try and ease some of that burnout that I am feeling. I also think by taking time to just be by yourself and recharge on a walk a few days a week after work, and just allowing yourself a breather can help.

    When the feeling of compassion fatigue begins or set in, remember to take a break. Deep breathing in the moment can help bring some relief. Remember that you can always ask another staff member to step in so you can temporarily remove yourself from the situation. My strategy is making sure I do something I enjoy at least 5 minutes a day.
