We can make healthy habits fun by playing games about washing hands and eating fruits. Singing songs about brushing teeth helps too. Kids enjoy doing these activities when they are like play.

Keep the kids active. Make sure they get a lot of outside time. Teach them to eat the rainbow. Get books on it and serve the rainbow for snack throughout a week. Family style dining is a way to make healthy eating fun. Encourage kids to drink water. Teach them a fun call out for drinking water. When you say, “drink waaaaaaaater!” Teach them to say “beat the heat, teacher, beat the heat!” before they drink.

I like to sing a song about washing hands while children wash to remind them to actually use the soap instead of just rinsing it down the sink. I sing “Tops and bottoms, tops and bottoms, in between, in between” to the tune of Frere Jaques and it ends with “and now they’re clean” which is really fun and, and an appropriate amount of time to wash hands. I also like to sing other directions such as putting extra food in garbage as well.

the best way to make healthy habits fun… is to get into them yourself….get enough of a sense about the thing… decently informed to the point where you get lit up about the thing you want the child to learn… and they will get it… and catch the wave of your enthusiasm.
