Singing songs, dancing, yoga, stretching. Fun ways to grab their attention while also allowing them to get their wiggles out. Kids get very hyper and squirmy when inside for so long so it’s good to provide some releases of energy that isn’t running around and climbing all over the classroom.

music and movement everyday indoors is a great way for them to move in a fun way. Introducing games and other fun things outdoors will keep them engaged as well.

outdoor or indoor yoga with the class, this is a silly way to get children up and active. Having a “dance party” WITH the children, asking them to actively dance silly with you

Indoor safe physical activities, such as dance parties and yoga. Continue to promote physical activity, and when outside provide activities that keep them active.

Some tips I have would be to get each kid involved and feel included. For example, we let the kids pick what songs we sing and dance to. This allows each kid to pick a song to feel included and then they are more likely to stick around and dance for longer.

The kids I work with love to dance so sometimes we’ll have dance parties with random music, or there are also YouTube videos that guide kids to do dances, or other fun movement activities such as pretending to be animals!

Sometimes when we only have a few minutes outside of class, we race but have them act like different animals while doing it. They love this game.

    1. Play music to make activities more enjoyable.
    2. Make sure there’s plenty of time for outdoor play.
    3. Change activities based on what the kids like.

Integrate physical activity into planned academic instruction to reinforce academic concepts. Provide physical activity, such as physical activity breaks, outside of planned academic instruction. Use classroom physical activity as a way to reinforce skills learned in physical education

yes the decorations and how you set up your classroom can speak for itself, if you have a reading section, art and play and science , carpet/nap are all signs of a classroom being comfortable and creating that space for growth.

Do you have any tips for creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom?

Baes on the season/weather, we can plan seasonal activities and decorate the classroom with seasonal decors and creative art work made by the children. Plan some small and large group activities. During the story time/story telling, we can make the classroom children to play the story as skit imitating different characters in the story book

We could have dance parties or go on treasure hunts. Basically taking the lead on an activity and having them mimic you or at least develop a game that they feel excited to be involved in.

I think making an area for stretching or just being on the floor and moving your bodies is a great way to help kids get creative with their bodies and learn to stretch from a young age.
