Physical activity is essential for children’s health and learning. In my classroom, I would encourage movement by offering daily outdoor play, simple games, and activities that match children’s ages and abilities. I like using music, movement games, obstacle courses, and free play to keep it fun and engaging. I also make sure activities are safe, inclusive, and not too structured, so children can explore, move, and enjoy being active while building confidence and social skills.

Know your age group:Match activities to children’s motor skills, attention spans, and social-emotional abilities.Offer choice: Learning centers and open-ended materials let children engage at their own level.Hands-on learning: Use movement, manipulatives, music, and play rather than long sit-down lessons.

Every morning we start our class meeting with the “Jump, Jump” song. We say two kids names at a time and they have about 20 seconds to stand up and hop around the carpet.

At our daycare, Sproutlings Daycare & Preschool, we make sure to have physically active lessons throughout the day. We try to recognize when the children are feeling antsy and if they are we make sure to add in a few more active lessons throughout the day.
