To create a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom I think it would be a good idea to use music to encourage the children to move around and dance. You could also do fun outdoor games such as tag or have fun toys such as balls outside.

    1. Provide a variety of age-appropriate equipment: Offer a range of equipment such as balls, hula hoops, balance beams, and crawling tunnels to encourage different types of physical activity and cater to different developmental stages.

    2. Incorporate gross motor activities into daily routines: Integrate physical movement into daily activities like circle time, transitions, and learning centers. For example, include movement songs, dancing, or stretching exercises during circle time.

    3. Create active play spaces: Designate areas for active play within your classroom, such as a soft play area, an obstacle course, or a movement corner. Ensure there is enough space for children to move freely and engage in active play.

    4. Plan structured and unstructured physical activities: Incorporate both structured activities (organized games, yoga sessions, etc.) and unstructured playtime where children can freely explore and engage in active play.

    5. Offer outdoor play opportunities: Whenever possible, provide regular outdoor playtime to allow children to engage in nature exploration, running, climbing, and other physical activities.

    6. Foster inclusive and cooperative play: Encourage children to participate in group activities and games that promote cooperation, teamwork, and inclusive play. This helps develop social skills while being physically active.

The firs step is make the children feel like a second home, a second family with the teachers and the rest of children, greeting them happy everyday, have a good active schedule for everyday, follow all the protocols

In my old classroom we were very active inside and out. We had lots of songs that required dancing and movement. Many chances to get the wiggles out. Also while outside, we played ball and chase, since they weren’t quite ready for that. The main thing, was encouraging them to be active and involved in their play whenever possible.

I like the idea of having a weekly rotation of jobs for the children to do. Such as “song starter: starts the song for circle or clean up”, “electrician: turns on and off lights”, “Line leader: leads the line”, “Door holder: holds the door open for the line when coming in and going out” etc. This encourages children to be active and get them excited because it is ‘their job’ and ‘their responsibility’ which they get a sense of accomplishment out of.

Some tips for creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom are incorporating interactive learning stations, having group games and activities, using music and dance, and encouraging free play. Music and dance will encourage movement and physical activity. A sensory table would be a great interactive learning station as it would encourage exploration.

I think that have decorations like the kid’s artwork and just have a fun activity like play dough and listen to kid friendly music.

Do you have any tips for creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom? I would say when it comes to outside time, I would encourage extra movement by integrating myself in a game or outdoor activity that is active like tag or dance battles.

Some physically, fun and developmentally activities for children could be done with songs that requires dance, outdoors as a group with teachers children can play fun engaging sports; balls, outdoor blocks.

When we have free time and are in a safe place like the gym we allow the kids to vote for a active game that they would like to play so they get to play something they want to.

Encourage movement based games outside and inside, this can include running, hopping, skipping, jumping and stomping back and forth, or singing a song with choreography!

Make sure that the physical activity has an avenue to engage every age present in the group of children. Some games might be too rough if you have little guys under the age of 6.
