Most important is to make sure to have a line of open, honest communication. This will help to foster and build trust and respect with families. Be transparent about sharing goals and expectations.

Good communication with them about their child, talking about their child’s struggles and accomplishments, providing a plan to help the child overcome their struggles, making sure everyone is in agreement with the plan, and being open to changing the plan or critiquing it based on the parent’s input.

Start with positivity, share the facts, and end on a positive or encouraging notes. It is important to be understanding, respectful, and empathetic and kind.

Keeping that channel of communication open and in contact through disagreements and so forth.

Making sure that after the conversation, the parent still feels welcomed and respected in this environment. Also making sure that we get to the root of the problem and using clear language that they will understand.

Being honest and open when communicating and being kind and respectful. Parents needs to feel they a care giver does in fact care and love the child and have their best interests.

What is your advice for creating and maintaining a good partnership between caregivers/parents and childcare providers?
My advice for creating and maintaining a good partnership would be to take the initiative when contacting caregivers. Either give them a call or invite them to talk after class. Communication is very important when it comes to developing positive relationships with families. I also think it is important to tell parents that you only want what is best for their child, so parents know they can trust you when you explain the child’s progress or your concerns.
