MemberMarch 9, 2023 at 4:56 pmI think the best way to teach serve and return is through art crafts and group activities, through that children can start to implement it in their independent play. Also modeling it through parallel play

MemberMarch 10, 2023 at 4:38 amServe and return can be fostered in a classroom by having a high staff to child ratio for maximum one on one interaction. A monitored group interaction, like group work or circle time, can also help to nurture serve and return within peers.
-
Early learning providers can facilitate interactions of back and forth communication in their classroom, granting each child enough time to deliver each response. Offering regular encouragement and flexibility of play, while providing enough time for children to develop and implement ideas, fosters independent young minds.

i think by doing more play based activities like puzzles or games that involve naming objects can make a more serve and return enviornment

MemberMarch 21, 2023 at 2:32 amServe and return can be created in the classroom simply by being observant of the children during independent play! Making time to initiate serves to each child over the course of the day, and reciprocating serves when initiated by the students.

Something I constantly do in my classroom is “name it” and identifying objects with spoken language.

playing games, helping them set it up and break down the rules. help them keep focus and learn the game

MemberMarch 27, 2023 at 5:09 pmEarly learning providers can create a “serve and return” environment in their classrooms by providing materials that are engaging and interesting to children, and that inspire curiosity and exploration. As well, it’s important that the interests of all individual children are acknowledged, as we don’t want children to be left behind. Showing interest and encouragement in trying new things and exploring (safely) is important in the development of children and increases their self esteem to try new things. If children aren’t supported in their interests, their self esteem and interest in learning will decrease and it will be harder for them to adjust to their new world.

MemberApril 2, 2023 at 11:50 pmA serve and return activity is where a child shows you a toy book or other object and you give them and that object your focus and talk to them about it.

MemberApril 3, 2023 at 2:47 amI think having arts and craft is a good way for ‘serve and return’ you get to interact with the kids and help when needed and they also get to interact with other children, or even during circle time when you are reading a book asking questions, asking about their week, and even asking about the weather for the day and the next day.

MemberApril 4, 2023 at 7:08 amI think one of the best ways we can use serve and return in the class room is when the children are in circle time because that’s when we are all together , and even the children can do it to each other.
