I think an easy way to think of this exercise is to simply put yourself into their shoes. So what would you find kind and considerate after a long move? What are somethings that might help you to feel more comfortable after such a big move? With this in mind I would make a point that each teacher and child understands at least one word or more in this child’s language. The first word I would introduce to the class would be one of greeting, that way this child can be properly welcomed into class each day. I would additionally incorporate, songs, books, pictures, food, from this child’s community into the classroom. I would ask the child and their parents what are some things they are missing from back home and include those into the classroom. I think that it is imperative for children to feel welcomed and at home in their classroom environment and from their peers.
