What to do when parents are late to pick up their child?

I would give the parent another reminder about the daycare rules and that this is the third time she has been late. I would then ask her what her schedule is and see if there is a way to accommodate her work schedule. I would find ways to try and help with her situation while also keeping the daycare rules in mind. Trying to find a middle ground that works for the both of us.

To keep communication professional and positive I would calmly and nicely make her aware of the impact it has on her child when continously arriving late for pick up become a habit, maybe be open to listening to and understanding/learning her daily schedule and offer solutions

I would stay calm and make sure the child is comfortable and safe while waiting. When Mrs. Hopkins arrives, I would <strong data-start=”163″ data-end=”197″>speak to her kindly but firmly, explaining the importance of following the center’s closing time. I would <strong data-start=”273″ data-end=”296″>record the incident and <strong data-start=”301″ data-end=”326″>let the director know so they can discuss it with her and find a solution if it keeps happening.

I would stay calm and talk with Mrs. Hopkins privately about her late pickups. I would remind her of the center’s closing time policy and explain how it affects staff schedules and the child’s routine. I would document the incident and let her know that continued lateness may lead to a late fee or further action. My goal would be to keep open communication and work together to find a solution.

I would ask the mother what might be the reason as to the late pick up and offer to put her in touch with any community resources that might help and troubleshoot with her possible ways to remedy the cause of the late arrivals.

Start with curiosity instead of getting impatient. Communicate the policy, but try to be understanding about the reason they are late. (Although this is easier said than done, I have found it to be much more effective than getting frustrated).

First, have a private and kind conversation with Mrs.Hopkins to understand if she’s facing any difficulties. Then gently remind her of the daycare’s pick-up times and policies, explaining why it’s important for everyone. If the lateness continues, follow the established procedures, which might include applying late fees or involving a supervision.

I would talk to the parent to see what the issue is. I never want to assume the parent is purposefully late. From there we can find a solution to help said parent.

I would start by acknowledging how stressful the end of the day can be and thank her for coming as quickly as she could. Then I would calmly explain the center’s closing time and the impact of repeated late pick-ups, and work with her to find a plan or support (like backup contacts) so she can meet the schedule.

I would start by reminding her that the center closes at x time and that she has been late twice already. Explain to her that I have duties of my own after work to attend to and that her coming late affects me as well as her daughter who has to stay after closing time.

Confront the parent with a positive but firm disposition. Explain to the parent that regular lateness, especially twenty minutes, has a great effect on their child and the care facility. It is scary being the last one to be picked up from the child’s point of view, and care facility has to be able to adhere to posted start and close times. Ask if there is anything the care facility can do to accommodate her that will mend the tardiness, and tell her if this continues, more stringent action will be taken.

If parent is constantly late to pick up the child, I would first approach the parent in a sympathetic way trying to understand the factors that contribute to their tardiness, but also explain how being late affects their child who wants to see their parents after school and who feel bad if they’re always the last ones to be picked up. I would remind the parent the drop/off pickup rules.

Respectfully explain that while it might not seem like a big deal to you, the childs world view is much smaller and it may create anxiety around being the last one left. Additionally, its important to advocate what you need from the parent’s side, to maintain a healthy partnership.

I would speak to her respectfully and describe the situation without judgment: “I’ve noticed it’s been hard to arrive on time these past few weeks.” Then I would ask if something has changed or if there’s anything we can adjust, and work together to find a solution.
