I am looking for how do they hold themselves in the interview, are they shy, overly confident. How well do they interact with me during the interview as well, is this going to be someone who can join our team and care and love on not just the kids but they families and the other staff as well.

In addition to the typical selection criteria such as level of education, specialized training, and experience, maximizing the fit means looking at work-relevant personality characteristics that are more subtle and subjective but critical in ensuring a candidate’s success in your program. One way to think about work-relevant personality characteristics is to think about the attributes of a good teacher.

    Relation building:

It takes time to cultivate a trusting relationship with a teacher. For some parents the disruption of that bond can be unsettling. A family may need to reorganize to accommodate the change. For many families this increases uncertainty and results in hypervigilance during the transition. The result may be closer scrutiny and an elevated concern about almost every detail of your program’s operation. A lost sock or a child’s rocky transition from home to school can turn into an upsetting episode and cause for concern.

I look for someone who seems very passionate about working with children. In my experience, if someone really loves it, it will show in the way that they describe their past experiences and different ways that they have made a difficult situation turn out to be a success.
