GuestJanuary 4, 2024 at 12:32 amFrom my experience, wearing overly flashy or distracting accessories, like jingling bracelets or oversized jewelry, can be considered unprofessional when working with children. These items can also pose safety risks.
-
Great insight, Kavita! Flashy accessories can be distracting and pose safety risks with children.

GuestFebruary 26, 2024 at 6:10 pmIn my experience, nice Jeans without holes in them and a T-shirt work best. I also try to always wear close toes shoes for any outdoor activities. I do wear a bit of jewelry. Some rings and a small necklace. These items are the same everyday and children do not seem distracted by them.
-
Erica, closed toe shoes and minimal jewelry are great choices for working with kids. Great Job!

GuestAugust 22, 2025 at 10:28 pmClothes with holes, stains, rips are not professional. Caregivers are examples for children and should dress appropriately, depending on the weather.

GuestAugust 24, 2025 at 9:51 pmHigh heels or slippery shoes These can be unsafe when moving quickly or playing on uneven surfaces.Dangly jewelry (long earrings, necklaces, bracelets) Kids might tug on them, and they can pose choking or injury risks.Tight or restrictive clothing You’ll want to bend, sit on the floor, and move freely—so flexibility is a must.Expensive or delicate fabrics Spills, paint, and sticky fingers are part of the job. Save the silk for date night.Clothes with inappropriate slogans or graphics Keep it kid-friendly and professional—no edgy humor or controversial messages.Long scarves or loose belts These can get caught on furniture or be pulled by curious little hands.Heavy perfumes or scented lotions Some children have allergies or sensitivities, so it’s best to go scent-free.Large bags or backpacks worn while interacting They can knock into kids or create clutter in tight spaces.

GuestDecember 22, 2025 at 7:49 pmI find that clean well-fitting clothes that allow you to move freely with children are best. Loose jewelry is best to be removed as necklaces and bracelets can get caught or pulled on by children unintentionally leading to potential safety issues.
