Can you think of an example of a person who had a significant early childhood experience that impacted them in the future, whether good or bad?

GuestOctober 13, 2025 at 6:57 pmI had a wonderful experience with my sons’ preschool teacher. She had a very interactive approach that kept the children engaged and helped them learn and remember fundamental building blocks that my children thrived by. She welcomed everyone individually with a smile and kind word and helped them start out on a positive note each and every day!

GuestOctober 14, 2025 at 4:26 pmWe had a couple of children in our care who were in foster care. They had significant delays and difficulties due to the abuse and neglect they endured with their biological parents. Once they came to us and realized we are kind and caring people the walls came down they built and their delays improved.
-
Great observation, Allyson! Your example highlights the profound impact of nurturing environments on children’s development and healing.

GuestOctober 14, 2025 at 6:32 pmMy mother had a hard time when she was a child. It was hard for her to trust people and always looked down and didn’t smile. Until we grew up and talk to her about sharing why she didn’t trust. After talking more about her issues, she felt more comfortable smiling with others. She had a beautiful smile, and everyone loved that about her.

Molly, your reflection on your mother’s journey highlights the importance of communication and healing in overcoming early challenges. Great insight!

GuestOctober 15, 2025 at 9:33 pmWhen my son was 18 months old he had a scary medical event and it was the nurses that greeted him with smiles and joy that helped him not focus on the many procedures and pain he experienced.

GuestOctober 15, 2025 at 9:47 pmMy son had a preschool teacher who never smiled and always yelled at the kids. I started to see his confidence melt away. He clung to me at drop off and never wanted to go to school. A few months later, he was moved to another class. His new teacher smiled and was always animated. She met the kids every morning with hugs and excitement. It changed EVERYTHING! He LOVED school and started becoming more independent because his confidence came back. That teachers smile changed the environment of the classroom and changed every child’s experience.

GuestOctober 16, 2025 at 9:07 pmI remember personally being in pre-school, and getting in trouble for little things like not sitting still! It had a huge impact on my social skills because I was always afraid of getting in trouble. I was very young but I still remember how much I did not like going to that center. I ended up moving schools, and the new teachers were so kind and welcoming and it made a huge difference in how i acted socially!

Jaila, your reflection highlights the powerful impact of nurturing environments on social development. Great insight!

GuestOctober 16, 2025 at 9:40 pmI did not grow up with the most positive parental figures, and it did impact a lot of my development process, and still impacts my day to day as an adult. I still struggle finding emotional security, and regulating my emotions. I read into expressions and actions too much, unsure if I can trust those around me. On the positive side, I still have fond and positive memories of my first grade teacher who was a very happy, positive, and kind individual. I found myself feeling safe and secure in class with her, even when I got in trouble she was so gentle with me and that impacted me.
-
Thank you for sharing, Nour. Your reflection highlights the powerful influence of both challenging and supportive relationships in childhood.

GuestOctober 17, 2025 at 6:47 pmI knew I wanted to work with children and in Art when I was little and in ICU. We had an Art Therapist visit us and she was called the “play lady” . My parents were often at work during the day when I was awake, so I was pretty lonely. She made me feel calm and at ease when I was just alone in a room all day during a pretty rough time. I looked forward to her visits and really, I remember her more than the bad experiences of being ill in a hospital. That really says a lot about her energy and the impact it made on me.
-
Jenee, your reflection beautifully highlights the power of positive experiences in difficult times. The “play lady” truly made a lasting impact!

GuestOctober 19, 2025 at 3:36 pmWhen a child has been out for a while due to illness or vacation, welcoming them back with a smile and letting you know how much you missed them goes a long way. Also slowly letting them get back into the swing of things.
-
Great insight, Viki! Your emphasis on a warm welcome highlights the importance of emotional support in easing transitions for children.
