GuestJanuary 11, 2023 at 9:39 pmI think you should let the child explore but you explore with the child , they can show you things through there eyes , and if you pay close attention you can learn from an Autistic child , but teach as well some children are more advanced than others . so continue teaching but don’t forget about the one whos not learning as fast as the others ,spend a little extra time with him or her because they may function on a different level .

GuestMarch 24, 2023 at 8:44 pmBe patient and understanding. Listen to the parent and asvocate for the child. Sometimes as parents we are busy and dont do the same activities that providers do with children and parents dont see what us providers see. Communicate all observations of behaviors right off the bat, do not be judgmenal, just state facts and help to guide parents to resourcess that are available.

GuestJuly 21, 2023 at 10:19 pmMy advice would be to be patient. Be patient and smile. I always smile and have a calm voice when working with kids on the autism spectrum. I also use persistence coaching when they struggle with a task that their peers may have mastered already. It is just stopping and taking time to work with them.

Lechra, thank you for sharing your advice. Patience is key when working with children on the autism spectrum, and your emphasis on communication through talking is important. It’s essential to remember that children with autism can perceive the world in unique ways and can benefit from engaging all of their senses. Keep up the great work!
