Children are closely supervised, and real play, movement, and social interaction always come first. for example If we use a tablet to watch a short science video, we view it together, talk about what we notice, and then turn the screen off. Right after, the children move into hands-on activities related to what they learned, such as drawing, building, or acting it out. This keeps technology meaningful while protecting time for real play and interaction.

MemberDecember 12, 2025 at 9:33 pmFor me, technology is an amazing time saving tool for the teacher of the classroom. As the class has been discussing, something that I do that helps me keep a balance between using tech and connecting with real-hands on learning is always following up a digital activity with something hands-on. An example I can think of is when my students were learning about trains, I showed them a short compilation video of different kinds of trains. They were fascinated to hear the train horn etc. After watching this video, we headed to our arts and crafts table to make our own paper trains. I believe this was a good use of technology and hands-on learning.

Great job, Diego! Your approach effectively blends technology with hands-on learning, ensuring students stay engaged and connected.

MemberDecember 16, 2025 at 9:05 pmI think this is something my center needs to work on. We do not allow the use of technology in the classroom for children. I think looking at and understanding the ways technology could be used safely in the classroom should be a good starting point.

MemberJanuary 1, 2026 at 3:45 amI make sure technology use stays safe and balanced by setting clear rules, supervising use closely, and choosing age-appropriate digital tools. For example, I use short and guided activities on tablets and then follow them with hands-on play or group activities, helping children learn to use technology responsibly while still prioritizing real play and social interaction.
-
Great approach, Jill! Balancing technology with hands-on play fosters responsible use and enhances social skills. Keep it up!

MemberJanuary 5, 2026 at 1:29 amThe first thing I do is to explore which websites are appropriate and without random pop-ups. Then I go ahead and select which one is appropriate for the children for problem solving (for example Math), then I make sure to supervise each child’s screen time.
-
Great job, Josephine! Your approach to selecting safe websites and supervising screen time fosters a balanced and secure learning environment.

MemberJanuary 12, 2026 at 12:24 amI basically use ai for music during play like using the going on a bear hunt (or holiday version) to encourage movement and music. I feel that this gives some guidance to let them express movement through music and play. Sometimes I allow them to watch part of the video to go along with it, but most just to listen and do. I find this very engaging for the students and they really seem to enjoy doing the activity. Sometimes we do the exercise inside and sometimes outside. I usually use this type of activity during a more transitional period from one activity to another.

Great approach, Karah! Balancing technology with movement fosters engagement while ensuring ample time for physical play. Keep it up!
