Animals are a great addition to a classroom! When I was in kindergarten we had a pet bunnie and while I don’t remember alot of things I still remember the bunny and all the other animals in my classrooms growing up! Iv never been sad around animals! Always keep a smile on my face!

Children LOVE animals. They love to care for them, love on them and pretend to be one. Its great interactive child play and a great tool for teaching children about each kind of animal and how they live.

My experience the children really enjoyed the different animals we have had in class. Our favorite animal was the hermit crabs. We would have our crabs come to our story time and the children would sit so still a listen to the story. We would build in our block center a obstalce course or a maze sometimes to see which crab could make it through it. We would walk like crabs sometimes which was good for their motor skills.

Everyone softens when animals are around. Even just a fish swimming in a bowl. I wish every school could have a school animal.

when i was in child care we had hamsters and we loved them and got to name them. we all took turns feeding them. they ended up having babies and i was one of the kids that got to take one home

Make sure you find a pet that is conducive for your classroom and students. Introduce your pet to the class slowly so that the animal is comfortable in their classroom environment and the students get to know the new pet and how it interacts with its new friends.

I do think animals are an effective teaching tool, my kids are toddlers so the best way to include them into our curriculum is to talk about what colors they are and what sounds they make.

Yes! My daughter was working on reading and really enjoyed the read to a dog program where the children sat with dogs and read to them. It was something she really enjoyed and looked forward to! The dog was a nice way to motivate her and there was less pressure than reading to an adult.
