Caring for a crying infant can be stressful. What strategies can caregivers use to cope safely with a crying baby and help prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)/Abusive Head Trauma (AHT)? Share your thoughts on the importance of recognizing symptoms and understanding reporting responsibilities.

A child care provider can always take five. Five minutes, and take time to step away to breathe. Make sure the child is in a safe place, call back up staff on hand, and just breathe. When my children we’re having a difficult day and crying just seemed to never stop, I would lay them on the floor on a blanket and lay next to them on my back. While lying on my back, I would rub their forehead, close my eyes and breathe. Slowly I would begin to sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” loudly and slowly until we both calm down. As I calmed singing with my eyes closed, typically so did my child.
