Smiling eases tension and shyness
I have a daycare child I will call Bea…
She is very shy….her parents openly say they are introverts. Bea at first resisted conversation that required answers. But I noticed she calmed down with me smiling or “speaking to the other kids about fun things or toys to play with but when I got around to her, I made sure I made my statement interacting somewhat with the other kids and then just smiled big and waved my hand around and said “Have fun” (short and sweet) while looking at her specifically. She now seeks me out on her own, I don’t expect her to “answer” in front of the class/play area. It’s been fun watching her warm up to her friends in daycare and even joke with them now.
