If you noticed a child struggling with early literacy milestones, what steps would you take to support them? Who would you reach out to for additional help or resources?

I would start with observing the child and try to assess if where they are in relation to early milestones. If i felt that they were not meeting those milestones I would have a meeting with the parents about my observations and talk about possible interventions and support to help the child. I would work with the family to offer as much support and resources as possible and continue to work with and observe the child.

Great approach, Michael! Observing and collaborating with families is essential for supporting children’s literacy development effectively.

If one of my students was struggling I would start with an observation to see where they are in relation to early milestones and where specifically they are struggling. I would then check in with my mentor to see if my concerns should be addressed and then meet with the parents with my observations and how we can support the student together.
