For making a good rule list I always like to ask for all of the children’s input on what rules we should put on the list. Then I would like to have the children draw pictures of these rules or we go over the rules by acting out different scenarios and what we can do instead to be a kind individual.

I usually sing a song with the kids or I will wash my hands alongside the children so that they are seeing an example of an adult washing their hands. I will also assign them a fun cleaning job such as using a child friendly brush and dust pan to help pick up items off the floor. We also have child friendly toys in our home area that showcase cleaning.

After reading a story to the children I like to have them pick a buddy and to take turns talking about the story to each other. Have the children ask questions such as “What would you do if you were the character?” and “What was your favorite part of the story and why?”. I would encourage collaboration, communication and guided support in the classroom. I would do this by setting up small group activities, role playing, and collaborative problem solving for the children.

For Emma I would have her do a simple coloring activity and perhaps a shape activity where they can learn how to start differentiating shapes. For Liam it seems like they are a bit more advanced so I would include more counting and number activities.

I completely agree and I try to imply a similar way of being inclusive with families. I like to make sure that I am being respectful of each families culture while also following licensing and state requirements.
