The first thing I would want to discuss with Mrs. Hopkins is if there is a reason why she has been late. Sometimes accidents happen or schedules change. Being fully aware of the situation is important. I think it would then be best to discuss how this has been effecting her child. I know changes like this can seem scary to kids, and children feeling comfortable and safe is the most important thing! A plan of what can be done to make sure her child is picked up on time is the next step. The discussion may veer into why it is important that her child is not left late (rules and regulations, laws, staff, etc). The hopes is that something can be worked out that will benefit everyone.

Sections 0080-0085 of the WAC Chapters 110-300 guidebook discuss Family Engagement and Partnerships. Two of the main ideas that are addressed in these sections are: 1. Family Support (self-assessment) Families are the first educators of their children!2. Family Partnership (communication) Families have a right to know what is happening with their child! Working with the families is very important to the child’s success.
