MemberMarch 25, 2025 at 11:10 pmThe WAC has it’s nondiscrimination statement. I feel that it should also require diversifying the curriculum in a more specific manner. It just requires that it promotes discovery and developing social skills. That feels very Bill of Rights in the way that it could be circumvented in a very harmful way.
-
I agree with your point. The WAC could be clearer about including diverse perspectives in the curriculum to make sure all cultures and experiences are represented equally.
-
Great observation, Serafima! Emphasizing diverse perspectives is vital for an inclusive curriculum that reflects all experiences.

The WAC convey important messages about the importance of valuing diversity, collaboration, and equitable access to education in early childhood education. They emphasize the need to recognize and celebrate cultural, linguistic, and ability differences in children and their families, creating an inclusive environment that fosters respect and empathy. Additionally, they highlight the importance of continuous and respectful collaboration between families and educators, where parents feel valued as the first and most important educators of their children. They also stress that all children, regardless of their background or ability, should have access to quality education that meets their individual needs and promotes their overall development, ensuring that every child has equal opportunities to grow and learn.
-
Great insights, Alexandra! You effectively captured the essence of WAC’s emphasis on inclusivity and collaboration in early childhood education.

MemberApril 6, 2025 at 2:41 pmWAC 110-300-0030, which outlines that early learning programs are defined by state law as places of public accommodation that must not discriminate in employment practices or client services based on race, creed, color, national origin, sex, honorably discharged veteran or military status, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, or ability. The important message behind the WACs for diversity and collaboration is that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn and thrive at an early learning center, and for that to happen teachers and staff must respect and appreciate each child’s culture to ensure their personal/individual needs are met.
