GuestNovember 3, 2025 at 5:59 amMy advice for maintaining a daily schedule for children would be to have the scheduled displayed and daily go through the schedule with the children. You could point out the schedule each time you are moving into a new part of the schedule to help the kids better understand the concept of a schedule.
-
Great advice, Cassandra! Regularly reviewing the schedule with children reinforces their understanding and helps build routine familiarity.

GuestNovember 4, 2025 at 9:53 pmI completely agree! Building a balanced routine that includes meals, playtime, chores, and hands-on projects truly helps children feel secure and engaged. Consistency gives them a sense of structure, while variety keeps their days interesting and meaningful. From my experience working in the kitchen, I see how much children depend on predictable mealtimes to feel comfortable and cared for. When meals and snacks occur on schedule, it helps the rest of the day flow smoothly. Children know what’s coming next and transition more easily between activities. I also love when we tie meals or snacks into hands-on projects, like helping wash vegetables from the garden or learning where certain foods come from. It gives them a sense of responsibility and connection to what they eat.Balanced routines support not only learning but also the development of healthy habits and social skills. When children know the rhythm of their day, they’re more relaxed, cooperative, and ready to explore.

Great insights, Rosanne! Your emphasis on consistency and hands-on projects beautifully highlights how routines foster security and engagement in children.

GuestNovember 11, 2025 at 5:41 amOne helpful tip for creating and maintaining a daily schedule for children is to keep it consistent but flexible. Children feel secure when they know what to expect each day, so keeping a regular routine helps them build trust and independence. At the same time, flexibility is important to adjust for individual needs or unexpected events.Including time for active play, rest, meals, and quiet learning supports their physical and emotional development. Visual schedules or pictures can also help young children understand what comes next.

GuestNovember 17, 2025 at 4:39 pmMy family has foster kids, and I have seen what a good routine and daily schedule can do for a child. I have a little boy who was neglected and was 3 years old, didn’t know his name and was nonverbal. He has been in our care for a year, and once he established our daily routine, he was able to communicate what he needed and that he needed to use the restroom. He can put sentences together for the most part. In his case, he needs routine, or his day is completely off and fits begin to come into play. When he has a routine, he is engaged in the activity and wants to learn more.
-
D’rey, your insights on the transformative power of routine for children are invaluable. Thank you for sharing this inspiring experience!

I think having the same schedule every day with added variety is the key to a successful routine. For example, meal and snack times can be the same time every day, but a variety of foods from day to day and week to week keeps the kids healthy and interested. Also, having set times for activities and clear transitions from each activity to the next will create predictability for the kids (such as clearing their dishes from lunch before going to bed for nap time).
-
Great insights, Caitlin! Consistent schedules with varied activities truly enhance children’s engagement and comfort. Well done!

GuestNovember 21, 2025 at 5:41 pmHaving a visual lesson for the children to see for themselves everyday is a big help when they come and ask what’s next. I send them over to the daily lesson chart and have them tell me what’s next.
-
Great idea, Alexis! Visual schedules empower children and encourage independence in following their daily routines.
