GuestFebruary 5, 2024 at 1:53 amI always sing the wash your hands song with the children and explain why we wash our hands. We talk about germs and why we need to wash the away before we eat and after we come inside from the outdoors. We have pictures of children washing their hands and steps printed out and posted on every sink with a song to go along with it.

GuestMarch 9, 2024 at 5:01 amA Clean-Up Scavenger Hunt would be something I would do. This will turn tidying up into a game by creating a scavenger hunt for items that need to be put away. First use colorful bins or labeled containers for different items and assign points for each successfully returned item.

GuestJune 11, 2024 at 4:14 pmI had a particular class that, when it was time to clean up toys after center time, would shove the toys away into any random bin or shelf that was closest to them. To help teach them and encourage them to put them where they belonged, I made a game of going around, like I was on a hunt, and would be very silly if I found dress up clothes in the fridge and say “What are clothes doing in the fridge? That’s so silly clothes don’t go in the fridge!” The kids thought it was hilarious and then they would come and put the clothes back where they belong.

Songs and music are often used to make cleanliness lessons fun for the kids. Children are often encouraged to sing a song as they wash their hands to make sure they are washing their hands long enough. Picture books are also fun to show the children.

GuestJune 27, 2024 at 7:47 pmWe have child size dustpans and small sweepers. We don’t even really have to make a game out of it, most of the kids are super excited to be sweep helpers.

For handwashing we sing a handwashing song! We also see how bubbly we can make the soap on our hands before rinsing with water.

GuestAugust 30, 2024 at 5:16 amI appreciate the comments regarding that it is not only good to praise children for the habits they build to be clean, but it is a great confidence booster for a child also.

GuestSeptember 16, 2024 at 9:39 pmSpecifically for clean up times, we have a clean up song that we play while the students are cleaning up. They really love the song and singing along; it keeps them motivated to pick things up and work together to clean the space. For handwashing, we will sing ABC’s or Happy Birthday a couple of times through with the children, and on our own to show them that we also make sure to thoroughly wash our hands.

GuestSeptember 20, 2024 at 4:09 amSomething i do with the children is read a book to them while they eat or play music. We also have conversations about a topic for that day. it could be about birthdays, or a holiday that is coming up soon, anything!

GuestOctober 27, 2024 at 2:49 amWe sing fun songs during a child’s handwashing time. This makes it fun but also show them how long they should wash their hands to get them clean

GuestDecember 8, 2024 at 1:00 amThe creative activity is a cleaning song. I will create a simple song for the children to sing while cleaning, which makes cleaning more fun and helps them remember the steps. This activity not only makes cleaning enjoyable but also allows the children to enjoy the process.
Another creative activity is to clean the task card. I will prepare some task cards with different cleaning tasks (such as wiping the table, tidying up the chairs, etc.) for the children to draw and complete, and give small awards or encouragement after completion. This can make cleaning activities like games and increase children’s sense of participation.
