Creating and maintaining a daily schedule for children is essential for a smooth and productive day. Firstly, consistency is key. Stick to a consistent routine as much as possible, with set times for meals, naps, play, and learning activities. Secondly, be flexible and responsive to children’s needs. Sometimes, unexpected disruptions occur, and it’s important to adapt the schedule to accommodate these situations while still providing a sense of structure. Thirdly, involve children in the routine. Encourage them to participate in daily tasks like setting the table or cleaning up after playtime. Finally, communicate the schedule visually for older children, using pictures or a visual chart to help them understand and anticipate the day’s activities. Overall, a well-structured routine helps children feel secure and confident while promoting their development.

We have teachers gather together and decide. Our main focus is child-led play time, therefore we make sure free choice and outdoor play time are around 45 minutes. We add snack time and circle time around it. Each day we like to have a special circle, there are music, science, yoga and small group time.

I would be sure that each day there is a plan made the day before to know what is in the plan for the day for the kids or even just stick to the same routine and it can be written out and each employee should follow what is suppose to be done

Daily schedules should be planned with enough time to allow flexibility on individual daily adjustments as necessary, but in the same order so children always know what to expect next.

Do you have any tips or advice on creating and maintaining a daily schedule for children?

I would advise to have a set pick-up/drop-off time in place, as well as a daily-schedule menu, and a family pamphlet/monthly calendar/reminder text in place, so as every one in office, on staff, and families, are aware of the schedule and routine, to prevent confusion, should any emergency or questions arise.

When building a schedule look at when you will want to do meal time and bathroom transitions. Then add in outdoor play. Then add in structured activity time and free play.

Making sure the children don’t feel trapped and dread the routine, leaving space for free choice or supervised help in making activity choices. Always making sure there is an option for everyone when it comes to free choice, as well as helping kiddos understand that even if they don’t want to do something for example maybe play outside, that if it’s on the schedule they must follow the routine and understand that sometimes we must complete activities we don’t want to, because then we can have fun later.

Some advice for creating a schedule is to give enough time for each activity, inside and out. And also, a good variety of activities.

I recommend creating a visual schedule that can be referred to regularly. I also highly recommend visual timers to forecast transitions and, ultimately, help maintain or stick to the daily schedule.

We need to make sure that everything getting put on the plan is clear. In small concise phrases that communicate what need to be done clearly. We want the maintenance of the place to be done in an orderly fashion. so everything need to be done in a way that makes sense to do it in, this being said even what is written on the maintenance plan has to be written in that way.

KIds love it when they know they have a full day of activities for them. Having snacks helps because they burn so many calories.

The routine and schedule is vital. The children need and want to know what to expect and when. If the schedule is to be changed it should be known to the children so there will be no confusion.

First, it’s good to fix a plan for necessary time schedule like breakfast, lunch, nap, snack and late snack. Then between the time, make a simple plan to understand easily for all. The plan must be exciting and fun routine for them as well.
