My suggestion would include a notebook, clipboard and calendar. Simply write down times and activities on paper. Or you could make a schedule on a computer and print it out. You could even make a schedule on your notes in your phone.

I think it is important to have a printed daily schedule, transition music or songs, giving children timed warnings when the next activity is going to take place, and following through on what is said.

I think its very important fo kids to have a schedule and a routine that will help you out and also the children somethings you can start doing is circle time in the afternoons , or having a set time for breakfast and lunch , washing there hands after they eat and play.

One of the biggest tips is to have a routine that you stick to. It can be as simple as having circle time every morning. During this time, make sure to stick to the same activities such as a song of the day, question of the day, calendar, and book of the day.

Build a consistent schedule that will rotate through multiple activities that include imagination/mental stimulation and muscle/physical activities. Plan enough activities to last a full day of care, and account for which activities should maybe not be planned directly after or before mealtimes.

Involving kids in the routine and providing 5 minute warnings before transitions help children to prepare.

Routines are a way for children to remember and prepare them to transition for snack time, lunch time, nap time, circle, time etc. I recommend reminding the children ahead of time that we are going to have our morning snack soon. So when I ring my bell it will be time to clean up, wash our hands to get ready for our morning snack. I have tried this with my students , and it help the children focus and most of them were able to follow the routine and they were able to clean up, and washed their hands, and sat down for snack.

I like working with monthly themes and then creating weekly and daily plans from that. It helps to keep the classroom environment fresh and fun for both the kids and teachers because we are learning about new subjects each month, within the already set learning environment stations.

When creating a daily schedule, you should keep it simple so its not confusing on the kids but also make it fun and interesting by letting them participate in choosing what they do.

start with meal and nap times and build from there, like art right before lunch, or music after nap.

i would say to always schedule breakfast, lunch and dinner. and in between those time have some play time, arts and crafts, nap time, maybe even outside time. something to keep them entertained and help them get into a routine.

Make routine simple and manageable so that what ever activity is happing it won’t run over time, causing disruption for snacks, lunch, or sleeping times.

Do you have any tips or advice on creating and maintaining a daily schedule for children?

    • Stick to your schedule and routine once set.
    • When creating a daily schedule, by aware of transition time from one activity to the next.
    • Post the daily schedule in a place that is accessible to students.
    • Consider adding movement breaks within the day to help with the class’s energy.

    1. Get kids involved. Some to-dos are non-negotiable (like tidying up her toys or doing his math homework)
    2. Use pictures for younger children.
    3. Have a couple of back-up activities ready to go.
    4. Be flexible.

I would create a schedule around meal/snack times as well as nap time, and then make sure to plan in the appropriate required outdoor time as well.
