Some of the ways to help children recognize their feeling , emotions and control their emotions:
By letting them speak their feelings out to a person they can tryst and feel safe with. When they communicate their feeling and emotions , they are able to release the stress.
The caregiver can also help the child the learn how to regulate their behaviour when he or she is feeling stressed out. They can help the child to learn the skill of self calming. Self calming practice takes only few minutes to practice everyday and can be helpful. The child can role play what a frustrated and anxious behavior looks like and then practice salg – calming with the child

The best ways to help children recognize their emotions and control their responses are through exercises, listening, mimicked behavior (how you respond), and practice.

MemberSeptember 4, 2023 at 5:56 pmI think young children may often not know how to verbalize their emotions so that is where we as care providers can come in and help them learn to identify emotions and communicate how they are feeling. I like the use of a feelings chart. I think seeing the different emotions and faces help children recognize what they are feeling. Body checks are great too because we can tell the child what we see and in time the child will be able to recognize those body sensations and connect them to their emotions without our help. Even as adults we need help controlling our responses and reactions to difficult and stressful situations so we need to give the children grace and remember that their brains are still learning and developing. As we model calm and supportive responses to the children, that will help them learn to regulate their strong emotions also.

The best way to help children recognize their emotions is to help them talk about what they are feeling. Ask them to use their words instead of acting out. Ask them questions to help them put into words what they are feeling.

Then one can show them how to work through that emotion or cope with it, such as having them do a quiet activity to calm down or breathing exercises

Then I also ask them questions about what I can do to help them to start feeling better. Then I would give choices on what we could do to help them move out of the negative feelings.

MemberSeptember 13, 2023 at 9:02 pmTo help children recognize their emotions and control their responses, you can teach them simple strategies like taking deep breaths, using calming techniques like counting or squeezing a stress ball, and giving them a safe space to express their feelings. Encourage them to use words to label their emotions and validate their experiences. Modeling healthy emotional regulation and providing consistent support and guidance can also be beneficial.

In my experience, one of the best ways to help children recognize their emotions and control their responses is through the practice of emotional literacy. This involves teaching children to identify and label their feelings, whether it’s happiness, anger, frustration, or sadness. By using age-appropriate books, stories, and activities that focus on emotions, children can develop a vocabulary for their feelings. Additionally, creating a safe and supportive environment where children feel comfortable expressing their emotions is crucial. Encouraging open communication and active listening helps children feel understood and validated. Teaching them coping strategies such as deep breathing exercises, counting to ten, or using calming techniques like mindfulness can also empower them to manage their responses effectively. Overall, promoting emotional awareness and providing tools for self-regulation are essential in helping children navigate their emotions in a healthy way.
