What I Discovered: While completing the activity, I discovered that the WACs (Washington Administrative Codes) provide detailed guidelines on health, safety, staff qualifications, child-to-staff ratios, and curriculum requirements. They outline clear expectations for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

Surprises: I was surprised by the specificity of some of the WACs, such as the requirements for staff training hours and the detailed procedures for handling emergencies and maintaining health standards. The level of detail shows how much thought goes into protecting children’s well-being.

Influence on Day-to-Day Practice: Yes, the WACs will influence daily practice because they set the framework for how to organize the classroom, respond to emergencies, and interact with children and families. Following these guidelines helps ensure consistency, safety, and quality care in the learning environment.

I was very impressed with how much they thought about the wac. It is awesome to know that when I need help or am unsure on something I can refer to this document and trust that it is reliable and current

I learned that there are a lot of requirements and that they are pretty detailed on what is expected.
I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs since I have been a foster mom for many years and they are all pretty similar.
I can see how they are set up to protect both me as the provider and the children I care for.

1. I learned that there are a lot of moving parts and requirements in place to keep kids healthy, safe and engaged!

2. One WAC that was interesting to learn more about was WAC 110-300-0300 about Individual care plans.

3. It will definitely influence my work because I will be mindful of all the thought and planning that goes into making a program run smoothly.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? They are extremely detailed and specific! There were also way more then I imagined there would be.

Were you surprised by any of the WACs? The amount of things you need a medication form for!

Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? It runs my whole day! These rules and regulations help guide how we care for children, therefore they play a role in everything we do.

The WACs are extensive and a little too archaic in terminology. You have to pay attention in order to digest them when you read them.

Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
Not particularly. I think they seem pretty self evident most of them.
Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
It obviously polices how I will care for children. But, again, a lot of it is evident.

1- While doing the activity, I learned that the WACs have many important rules to keep kids safe, make learning better, and ensure staff are well-trained.

2- Some rules weren’t surprising, like keeping kids safe and watching them closely, but others, like training needs and classroom rules, were more detailed than I thought.

3- Yes, I can see how the WACs will affect my daily work because they help make sure we are doing things the right way to keep kids safe and give them a good learning experience.
