MemberAugust 4, 2025 at 11:16 pmMy biggest worry about keeping children safe is that even when given directions on how to act safely, sometimes children make mistakes or don’t follow those directions and may get hurt. I also worry about how to protect them if an armed intruder were to enter the school.

Sarah, your concerns are valid and reflect a deep understanding of safety challenges. It’s crucial to balance guidance with preparedness.

MemberAugust 8, 2025 at 7:56 pmI would echo many of the concerns that previous posters have stated (internet safety, gun violence, etc.) as a parent. As I enter my profession in ECE, I think my biggest worry has always been keeping children safe when they are outside of my care – are their basic needs even being met? Housing and food insecurity is far more prevalent than we often realize.
-
Kira, your insight into housing and food insecurity highlights crucial aspects of child safety. Addressing these needs is essential for holistic care.
-
-
A worry for me is that if an emergency arose, I would be scared or unsure of what to do. Additionally, I have concerns about gun violence, predators, and other “real-world” threats.
-
Gemma, your concerns are valid and reflect the importance of preparedness and awareness in keeping children safe.
-

-
Imani, that’s a crucial concern. Recognizing signs of abuse and neglect is vital for ensuring children’s safety and well-being.

-
Keeping them healthy and safe: main concern is accidents on the playground that cause major injury and overuse of screen time at home, especially what’s on the internet, even YouTube videos.
-
Great points, Jason! Balancing safe play and screen time is crucial for children’s overall well-being. Your concerns are valid!

MemberAugust 14, 2025 at 2:45 amI worry that the regulations in my childcare center worry more about ‘redirecting’ children’s actions more than keeping some kids safe. I had a child who was thrashing around on our communal carpet, so I set him at a table for no more than 2 minutes while I finished instructing the other children. I spoke to him and the first thing I said was “You are a really good kid”. I was told the following day what I did was not okay. I was told I should have offered to let him utilize the ‘cozy corner’ (which is pretty much playing).
