I feel like when it comes to point of view, we often do find ourselves changing our point of view. At least I do. I listen to what people have to say when it comes to their views on a certain issue and take the time to educate myself and see if I have the same views or if I differ from those views. I think when we talk to people about what their views are we can see in their perspective. Everyone thinks differently. Someone may say something interesting that may stick with you for a while and might make you think. At least that is what happened to me in the past. As long as people are respectful I feel like we should give our view point more often.

    Point of View

    1. Things that influence my thinking are religion, especially how its used in the states and or media, coming from numerous cultural backgrounds, having difficulty in housing or even education. I absolutely agree with the statement that when you’re experienced in life and walk in others’ shoes, you can see their point of view and help them find a solution. A Lot of people are unwelcoming to others whose values and/or lifestyles are different from what they know. That is why it is so vital to be supportive and open about different backgrounds and celebrate all the differences. Then teaching a welcomed open minded curriculum can keep the children’s mind open as well.

Ways to celebrate the welcoming of the new student would be asking the parent if they would like to be with their child for the group welcome from the class to help ease any hard feelings the child may face and doing this includes the parent/guardian feeling welcomed as well by their child’s peers and educators. Next, I would ask the parent/guardian if it would be acceptable to post their name in the parent/guardian-teacher academic update board to put a welcome introduction of the new parents or guardians and student(s) of the class for a community hello.

Next: to notice important characteristics of the child is to have a special creative group craft by their assigned tables for our new student to have an assigned seat and get to socialize with their classmates but independently work on self-projects of making hats or something fun to wear; of their favorite colors and spelling of their name etc. This also helps the child socialize comfortably and then I will walk around tables asking open-ended questions about their artwork to better understand their characteristics and it gets the student comfortable talking in front of the peers in the class.

    1. A multicultural education curriculum should be in place in every
school. I agree, with the rising number in our multi-cultural
population it makes sense that we should be supporting all students.
    2. Families should not be expected to be involved in
classroom activities. Disagree. Family’s should be given every opportunity to be
      engaged.
    3. All learning programs should accommodate all
children with special needs. This one is hard for me to answer because I’m not sure. There are programs that specialize in special needs so therefore have a higher qualification for that area and I think the children should get that care.
    4. Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not
have a voice in raising or educating the child. Disagree. That’s not our
call. Our duty is to the families we interact with.
    5. My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current
interests. I don’t think it’s really that possible to cater to every child’s interests. What we are
doing is teaching new skills and ideas. It’s not what the children want its what they need. If we as teachers can find a way to incorporate their interests into the curriculum then I think it should be done.
    6. Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t
include age, ability or family make-up. Disagree. Diversity is every way we are different from each other and that greatly effects children.
    7. Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events
around the country. Disagree. It is our duty to sift through the media we are given to make sure what we are teaching our children as fair and accurate.
    8. The United States should discontinue relations with countries that
engage in human rights violations. I’m not sure how this pertains to child care education.I have my personal beliefs but the classroom is not the place to share them.

Kassandra, your support for multicultural education and inclusion of children with special needs is commendable. However, involving families and embracing diversity in all forms are crucial for a holistic approach.

Find out all you can about the child and where they are from and where they are living now. Explain to the other children they need to be friends with the child and show them our setting and invite them into their play circles.

Great initiative, Genesis! Understanding a child’s background and inviting them into play circles fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion. Well done!

I think that all these need to be addressed with the families before they consider your daycare. Sometimes the difference between the provider and the family are to far apart that it won’t work. I think your beliefs and culture are just as important and if they won’t work for your group it won’t work. On the other side it is important to have different cultures in your setting.

The more we learn and the more we live our views constantly. For example, the views I had 10 years ago is completely different than the ones I had now. Everything can change our views such as going to school, moving to a different area, and meeting new people.

Nizhoni, your reflection on how our views evolve over time is insightful. Experiences like education, relocation, and new relationships shape our perspectives. Well said!

Either people respond respectfully or negatively to one another depending on the topic. Yes, our views constantly change with every encounter we have or what we see. If we have positive or negative experiences it influences the way we view things.
