MemberFebruary 11, 2025 at 5:22 amI love the idea of having a “music and movement” time for children to sing, listen to music, and dance with their friends. I also loved an idea presented in a previous video: asking a child how the class should move to a new classroom location/station (hopping, skipping, dancing). There are plenty of small things teachers can implement in the classroom to help children reach their daily activity needs.

Do you have any tips for creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom?
Some tips that could help for creating a developmentally appropriate fun physical active would be doing sing alongs that we can dance, playing Simon says can be fun get you body moving, I remember when I was in school we would sing to songs that required us to move around, doing the hookie pookie was a song we would do as well.

After building trust with the child, I think it is important to not only have developmentally appropriate toys but activities and a wide array of things to do throughout the day. Spending time outside, singing songs, dancing, reading, coloring, and painting are all ways to create a developmentally fun and active classroom.

MemberFebruary 26, 2025 at 11:38 amTo create a fun and active classroom, I can plan games and activities that match the age and skills of the children. I can use music and dance, set up obstacle courses, and include free play time with balls, jump ropes, and other equipment. It’s important to have different activity areas so children can move, explore, and learn. I can also make sure that instructions are simple and that every child gets a chance to join in. Keeping things exciting and playful will help children stay engaged and active while they learn!

MemberFebruary 27, 2025 at 6:49 pmCreating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom requires intentional design and planning. Start by incorporating flexible seating options and activity zones to promote movement and exploration. Utilize natural light and provide diverse materials, such as balls, blocks, and sensory toys, to cater to different interests and abilities. Model enthusiasm and participation in physical activities, and offer positive reinforcement to foster confidence and motivation. Differentiate instruction to meet unique needs, and prioritize outdoor playtime to encourage exploration and physical activity. By implementing these strategies, you can create an engaging and supportive environment that promotes overall well-being and development.
