MemberMay 12, 2025 at 10:40 pmCreate activity stations that allow for movement like dancing, jumping, or balancing. Use music, games, and props (like scarves or bean bags) to make movement fun and engaging. Most importantly, join in and model enthusiasm, kids are more likely to participate when adults are actively involved and having fun too!

MemberMay 19, 2025 at 3:35 amThere are so many different ways to help the children to get active, when we are outside, we will walk along the fence holding on to it pretending that the grass is hot lava or there is an earthquake, and we all start to yelling. We love going for walks around the building and looking at everything and talking what we are seeing. Inside we have the steppingstones the children really enjoy walking around on those, we dance to music with color scarves.
-
Great ideas, Bonnie! Your creative outdoor activities and use of music and movement indoors foster active engagement and imaginative play!

MemberMay 25, 2025 at 12:16 amLetting children help and be part of the daily schedule and regular activities is a great way to keep them interested and have fun. We have the daily jobs in the classroom and we rotate them so everyone has a chance to try. One counts the people in the room, one open and hold the door when we go outside time, one sets the table, one is the helper when we serve food, etc.
-
Great insights, Eddie! Involving children in daily activities fosters engagement and responsibility while promoting a fun learning environment.

Incorporate movement into learning, like adding dances. Never discipline for being active when appropriate. Have active toys available, such as balls and hula hoops. Try doing kid stretches or yoga.

I have a list of movement songs like stand up sit down by Patty Shukla, Elephants have wrinkles, The Goldfish by Laurie Berkner and We are the Dinosaurs also by Laurie Berkner to highlight a few. I’ve done dance parties. I also just have children reach the sky, touch their toes, reach the sky, touch their toes.
