Positive relationships with families

My advice for creating and maintaining a positive and good partnership with parents is to do your homework! Arm yourself with the important information and resources available to your families. Make sure you know your community and inform yourself on the specific benefits that each outside entity provides. For example, if you have a list of therapists that you use to recommend families that have children struggling in that area, make sure you know the strengths of the doctors. Maybe one therapist works better with younger kids, versus another who is more suitable for older school aged kids. Or you have a family that is low on food often and needs help with groceries. Instead of recommending them to a resource that maybe offers one-time gifts cards, you can find a food bank that offers weekly support in providing healthy food options for that family, so they never run out. Being kind, honest, and having pure intentions is crucial. Approaching topics that might be sensitive to families with extra discretion can cause a world of difference. Some families might feel shame when faced with a certain dilemma and it is our job to provide assistance without judgment.

My advice in creating a partnership with parents is starting off very positively and consistently interacting with families about their child and the progress they are making. To maintain this, you are clear and consistent with communication, making them feel welcome to ask questions, continually providing them with information and resources for their child.

I think it starts with my attitude, being always polite and welcoming, very transparent to maintain clear communication with the parents. I also have to be well informed to help them in case they need it. Being emphatic helps because it shows that I really care. Provide resources if needed.

To build a good partnership between parents and childcare providers, keep communication open and respectful, listen to each other, and share updates regularly. Be flexible, supportive of each other’s goals, and show genuine care for the child. Trust grows from being kind, patient, and reliable.

Be genuine and put effort into those relationships. You spend almost more time with their child than they do. Its comforting to parents to know your background as well as a little of theirs. It also aids in small talk during pick up and drop off which adds to the overall vibe of a classroom environment.

I think it’s important to create and maintain good partnership between caregivers and childcare providers so that children can receive the best care at home and at school. You can start this by talking to caregivers at drop off and pickup and getting to know them better

I feel like honesty and always communicating when there’s a doubt, or allowing the parent to feel welcomed and knowing that they are not being judged

What is your advice for creating and maintaining a good partnership between parents and childcare providers?

Open communication and treating each other with respect. I think we can maintain a good partnership with parents and childcare providers by viewing parents/caregivers as team members as opposed to the opposing team.

Always keep trust in the relationship and respect. Keeping open communication with the caregiver but at the same time not judging or making assumptions about their situation.

Open communication, trust and collaboration are critical elements of the care giving caregivers and childcare providers mutual working relationship. First, adopt a system of daily, weekly or at least as often as possible either orally or in an electronic message to keep parents abreast. 1. Acknowledge families’ perspectives by listening to their opinions you will need to understand that parents are their children’s first teachers. As a professional, one need is to gain the trust of the client and this involves being punctual, explaining everything and being culturally sensitive, implying the use of family values and choices regarding the client. Participate in the planning of the child’s goals and objectives, problem solving and sharing of successes. Promote parent’s participation through inviting them for activities or programs or offering home support to their child. Above all, respect the proportions of child’s safety and care, and be understanding and patient toward families’ situation, which is a key for the formation of successful partnerships and working relations for the sake of the child’s best interest.
