Because childcare providers and families have in common the child’s well-being, maintaining good partnerships with parents starts with assuring the families that you’re there as an additional level of support. Also keeping a line of open communication is key here as well.

Maintenance is something that seems to easily be over looked.. TO MAINTAIN… I would recommend looking at what works well in the partnership and strategically insert occasions just like with curriculum to recreate what works well. jumping in to take the blame if there was a less than ideal choice made in behavior… even if not noticed. Recall events and conversations and bring up info from previous conversations and ask about what interested them.

Define the problem and make sure the other side agrees, then brainstorm with no judgment, then finally make a plan.

Speak regularly with the family members about the child’s development, what they’ve been interested in and some goals/milestones they have accomplished.

To build strong partnerships between caregivers and families, keep communication open and honest, listen with kindness, celebrate every success, respect each other’s strengths, create comforting routines, stay calm during challenges, share helpful resources, and maintain a positive, team-focused attitude. Together, you create a supportive community where children thrive.

I think it starts with warmth, understanding, and honesty. I believe people can detect the sincerity in how much we care for their children, and centering that in the discussions, while respecting the parents as the primary childcarer and expert on their child, aids meaningful communication.

My advice for creating and maintaining a good partnership between caregivers/ parents and childcare providers would be for there to be transparency, active listening and to communicate in which the other person may understand.

To build and maintain a strong partnership, both parents and childcare providers should prioritize open, honest, and consistent communication, mutual respect, and a collaborative approach. This involves actively listening to each other’s perspectives, sharing information regularly, and working together to support the child’s development and well-being.

Being open and honest with the child’s caregivers. When they feel like they are in the loop, they will return that openness, which will make resolving any conflicts easier because both parties are aware that you both care for the child and want what’s best for them.
