One should use approved INFANT sleeping equipment, as this is the first step to providing a safe environment. The safest place for a baby to sleep is a single-level crib, an infant bed, bassinet, or playpen. A mattress must be firm, and snuggly to touch each side of the crib or bed, to prevent the infant from becoming trapped between the mattress and crib. Each baby must have their own separate bedding, and it needs to be stored without touching other bedding. No soft stuffies should be placed in a crib, or a blanket. Only a fitted sheet. The baby should be dress appropriately so that they won’t get too hot, nor too cold.
