A single level crib, bassinet, infant bed, or a playpen. All should have a mattress that is snug against the walls of the sleep equipment.

I would place the infant on a secure firm, crib/playpen, flat, and comfortable with no gaps.

    1. Crib or Bassinet:

      • Use a safety-approved crib or bassinet that meets current safety standards. Ensure that the mattress fits snugly within the crib or bassinet, leaving no gaps at the sides.
    2. Firm Mattress:

      • Opt for a firm mattress with a tight-fitting crib sheet. Soft bedding, including soft mattresses and loose bedding, poses a suffocation risk and should be avoided.
    3. Avoid Soft Bedding:

      • Remove soft bedding items such as pillows, bumper pads, stuffed animals, and loose blankets from the sleep area. These items increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
    4. Sleep Sack or Wearable Blanket:

      • Instead of loose blankets, consider using a sleep sack or wearable blanket. These keep the baby warm without the risk of covering the face.
    5. Back Sleeping Position:

      • Always place the baby on their back to sleep. This is the safest sleep position and reduces the risk of SIDS. The baby’s face should be clear of any obstructions.
    6. Pacifier:

      • Offer a pacifier for naps and bedtime. Pacifiers have been associated with a reduced risk of SIDS. However, if the baby rejects the pacifier, it should not be forced.
    7. Temperature Control:

      • Maintain a comfortable room temperature, ideally between 68°F and 72°F (20°C to 22°C). Dress the baby in a one-piece sleeper or sleep sack to keep them comfortably warm.
    8. Avoid Overheating:

      • Avoid overdressing the baby. Overheating increases the risk of SIDS. Check the baby’s neck or back to ensure they are not too hot.
    9. Regular Monitoring:

      • Regularly check on the baby while they are sleeping. Use a baby monitor to keep an ear out for any sounds or movements.
    10. Safe Sleep Guidelines:

      • Familiarize yourself with safe sleep guidelines provided by reputable health organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) or your country’s relevant health authority.
    11. No Co-Sleeping:

      • Avoid co-sleeping with the baby in an adult bed. Instead, consider room-sharing by placing the crib or bassinet in the parents’ room.
    12. Follow Manufacturer’s Instructions:

      • If using a baby product, such as a bassinet, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for assembly and use.

For a 2 month old infant, I would use a single child crib with a firm mattress, no blankets or pillows, and no gaps amongst the crib and the mattress.

You should provide a proper crib with a firm mattress. Avoid any toys or excessive pillows/blankets.

When an infant falls asleep in a swing, it’s important to transfer them to a safe sleeping surface, such as a crib or bassinet. This is to ensure the baby’s safety, as sleeping in a swing is not recommended due to the risk of suffocation or SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Always place the baby on their back on a firm, flat surface without loose bedding or soft toys.

For a 2-month-old infant, the recommended sleep equipment is a firm and flat mattress in a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard. The sleep area should be free of soft bedding, toys, and bumpers to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and to prevent suffocation hazards. It’s important that the infant is always placed on their back to sleep.
