    Two month old infant sleep

This would be important info to discuss with parents. The teacher/infant ratio is small so that extra attention can be given.

About one in five sudden death syndrome (SIDS) deaths occur while an infant is in the care of someone other than a parent, often within the first few days of care outside the home.

When babies who are used to sleeping on their backs are placed to sleep on their tummies by their child care provider, they are 18 times more likely to die from SIDS. This is called “unaccustomed tummy sleeping.” You can reduce a baby’s risk of dying from SIDS by placing babies in your care one their back during naps.

Using approved sleep equipment is the first step in creating a safe sleep environment.

•Safest place for a baby to sleep is a single-level crib, infant bed, bassinet or playpen.

•Mattress must be firm and snuggly touch each side of the crib or bed to prevent the infant from becoming entrapped between the mattress and crib side rails.

•Each child must have his own separate bedding and it needs to be stored without touching other bedding.

Do not put infants to sleep in swings, car seats or similar equipment. A higher risk of infant death is associated with babies sleeping in these types of equipment. If a baby falls asleep, move him or her to approved sleep equipment.

Great insights, Theresa! It’s crucial to discuss safe sleep practices with parents and use approved sleep equipment.

Great response, Kalista! Remember to prioritize safety and avoid soft bedding for infants. Good job!

A solid, flat sleep surface, such as a crib or bassinet, is advised for a 2-month-old infant. Make sure there are no blankets, toys, cushions, or other loose items that could cause asphyxia. The sleep surface should fulfill safety standards and guidelines to reduce the danger of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or asphyxia. Always place the baby to sleep on their back for naps and at bedtime.

A crib or playpen with a firm mattress, and no bedding. The mattress should touch the walls with no gaps.
