I believe that screen time in childcare can be appropriate if it enhances the learning of the child and if it is done in an effective amount of time.

I completely agree. As a many I have seen the effects screen time plays on the attitude of the day verses days in which there was no screen time. I agree that there should be no screen time before the two yers of agr

I agree the studies and statistics that are available indicate that screen time isn’t helpful to the child, and can also affect their brain development in a negative way. Screen time is addicting.

I feel like screen time for children in childcare is not that bad, I feel like 1 hour of screen time would make the kids happy and by screen time I mean having like a TV in the classroom and showing kids educational things.

i feel as if screen time is okay if they’re learning something from it. i feel like too much screen time isn’t okay, but yes it can be okay in a certain timely matter. kids can learn that way & have fun too.

Screen time is an issue that divides our education community. Children now have screen time on cell phones and tablets, as well as sitting in front of a larger TV screen. Classrooms can use screen time to enhance their programs with educational content and fun activities that create self-expression. The time should be monitored and limited.

I believe screen time is best left for the parents to utilize at home, especially when it comes to younger groups of children. Child care settings should be reserved for social/emotional development through interaction and play with their care givers and with the other children. They may teach shapes and colors on a youtube video, but who is to say that they are not “zoned out” and passively watching? They would do best through physical or 2D representations on paper that they create.

I think screen time is okay if they’re doing a learning app or in the general idea of a learning app or even watching a tv show or movie before bed time is okay but not all day everyday it can mess with a child’s learning process etc

      Guidelines on Screen Time

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) provides clear guidance:

      • No screen time for children under two years old.

      • Limited screen time (1-2 hours per day) for older children, focusing on high-quality, educational content.

Childcare providers can play a crucial role by adhering to these guidelines and reserving screen time for activities outside the childcare setting.

      Benefits of Reducing Screen Time

      • Encourages Active Learning: By minimizing screens, children are encouraged to explore, play, and engage in hands-on activities that promote cognitive and physical development.

      • Supports Social Interaction: Face-to-face interactions with caregivers and peers enhance social skills and emotional understanding.

      • Promotes Physical Activity: Reducing screen time encourages movement and physical play, which are vital for overall health and development.

      Practical Strategies for Childcare Providers

      1. Create Screen-Free Policies: Establish a childcare environment where screens are not used, aligning with AAP recommendations.

      2. Foster Interactive Play: Offer activities that stimulate creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration, such as building blocks, role-playing, and outdoor games.

      3. Educate Parents: Share research on the impacts of screen time and encourage parents to monitor and limit screen use at home.

      4. Model Healthy Behaviors: Avoid personal screen use in front of children, demonstrating the importance of face-to-face interaction.

Yes, I think the monitoring part is crucial in terms of screen time. Knowing what a child is watching and being available to pause the screen or discuss what they are viewing is important.

In my opinion videos should be limited in childcare. If videos are used at all I believe that it should be short for about 5-10 mins max. Too much screen time is negative to children, it is shown through research and through my own personal experience that screen time is addicting to children. Therefore I believe that limiting to preferably not at school at all is suggested.

I do not think screen time is needed or should be put for children. They can watch things at home but here at childcare they are here to learn but also have fun in ways that don’t and shouldn’t include screen time.

screen time should be used maybe one hour a day, there’s a lot of resources now days that are actually good for kids to watch. there’s videos and different things for kids to actually enjoy learning. making it fun can be good.

I think screentime at a daycare should not be used daily. I think it should maybe be some type of reward depending on your daycare set up. For example, at the end of the week if all kids have behaved well, if you have a reward system that’s great for this scenario, then maybe 30 minutes of cartoons after lunch or something along those lines wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I think children should have little to no screen time. It delays learning and since they learn the best and most through interactions and doing things if they are simply watching they aren’t actively learning and retaining, nor building relationships and proper interactions and social behaviors with others. if screen time is given I think it should be limited to a little time and supervised by parents or adults.

I honestly don’t care for screen time that much and think they should have little to none.

I feel that screen time should be very limited for early childhood because their brains are still developing, and they will end up being smarter and more independent if they are taught by an educator versus if they were to be taught by technology. I think it is very important for their development that screen time is limited as much as possible.

oof. My child gets a lot of screen time. I can see how it effects him and his behavior and attitude. He starts to get mad when I tell him no tablet now and throws a fit. I am excited for him to start at childcare cause I am hoping he is able to keep busy without the need of videos. I think that there are plenty of other things to do at a childcare facility so movies or videos every once in awhile is ok, but having the tv on all the time, like I usually do at home is not a good thing for children.

No Screen Time for younger kids. for older children, moderation is key. say they can play video games or watch tv after they have done everything.

There are many educational and beneficial programs that children can access to help then grow and develop. The key is moderation and supervision.

I think most children get plenty of screen time at home, and a childcare center should be a place free of screens, allowing kids to learn how to entertain themselves, develop skills through play, and most importantly, develop socially by interacting with other children and adults.
