Screen time in childcare

I think screen time is absolutely inappropriate for a young child, especially in their daycare, or early learning center. The time we have with them should be spent always helping them grow and meet their continuum developmental milestones. There is always an opportunity for a craft, or something as simple as a song, never screen time.

I think learning songs and preschool stuff like colors, numbers and letters isn’t considered screen time but should still be limited

I think that there is no need for screens in childcare. This is a detrimental time for them and theres no good I see in involving screens. Children need to develop their social-emotional skills and other important skills that will be damaged by screens.

I feel that screen time is unnecessary in childcare especially for children of young ages. As children get older, I can see how educational content can be beneficial in learning new ideas or concepts that a teacher might not have the capacity to show or explain fully. However, screen time during early childhood should be limited to whatever a parent might want to show their child at home. I think it is best to encourage parents away from screen time but circumstances do vary by household. With that being said, having childcare be screen free (ages 0-3) can give the children a consistent place to explore and play beyond the screens.

Sasha, I agree that screen time should be limited in childcare, especially for young children. Encouraging parents away from screen time is important.

screen time should be kept out of the classroom until kids are in middle school. I believe screen time should be kept to a minimum as research shows that children learn and develop through social interactions and interacting with their environment, not staring passively at a screen

Great insight, Jess. Children learn best through social interactions and hands-on experiences. Minimal screen time is crucial.

I don’t believe we should regularly use screen time in childcare. Kids get enough of it at home. I think in preschool it would be okay to show some short educational clips to enhance your curriculum but not to entertain. An example would be if you were studying garden and you showed a clip on how a plant grows.

Most likely children have screen time on cell phones, tablets, TV screens outside of school. In the Classrooms we can use limited screen time to create a learning environment that keeps their attention.

I think that it is healthy for a child to get some kind of screan time per day. We do not want to turn the child into an “iPad kid”. Meaning that every time they see some kind of device they want it immediately.

I through working within the Waldorf system and also working in settings with kids who have lots of screen time can say kids without do so much better. Are more active have more interests, share thoughts much clearer then those who have screen time.

My thoughts on screen time for children in childcare are that it should not be implemented. We can see how kids tend to behave in general after watching or playing games on an electronic. They are more sensitive, cranky, anger issues and etc. this will give caregivers more problems and a harder time with kids that is unnecessary.

Diana makes a valid point about the impact of screen time on children’s behavior in childcare.

1)When children spend extended periods indoors engaging with screens, they may be missing out on opportunities for exercise and outdoor play, which are vital for their overall health and well-being.

2)Screens make it harder for children to focus in school, which may affects their behavior.

    3) Screens time should be limited . because childern can learn in more efficient and easy way with video and audio classes i think that will help them to learn in more visualizing ways.

It is advisable for young children not to include cartoons at all and not to show tablets or phones. Children from 2 to 5 years old can already be allowed to watch cartoons, but preferably for 30 minutes or an hour, but no more, because we see that children are getting used to tablets and phones because children spend a lot of time at the tablet, they have poor memory, speech and imagination.

Screening time for children takes their creative development really low as they need a chance to play and create on their own.

Excessive screen time can hamper children’s communication and language skills. Children exposed to too much screen time have fewer opportunities to participate in face-to-face interactions that teach them facial expressions and emotional cues that benefit their early language development.
