WAC 110-300-0055 states that families must be informed and involved with developmental screenings of their children.

WACs message overall is the diversity and culture must be apart of the early childhood experience and families should not be made to conform due to their cultural differences.

    1. In WAC 100-300-160, It says that early learning educators must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities through their curriculum activities and materials that represent the kids along with their families and staff. On page 11 of the handout, it states that the regulations of an early learning program set equitable standards and acknowledge diversity and individuality. Having reading material that talks about and shows different cultural values, decorations, and celebrations of all cultures is an example of something you can provide in a classroom to teach diversity.

WAC tells to honor all children’s race, religion, culture, gender, physical ability and family structure, and to provide families with information on their child’s progress in the center.

    2. The big message that WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration is, that in order to make children feel represented and seen in the classroom your program must practice things including their culture this will make everyone feel appreciated and want to put themselves forward to be involved.

    1. <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>WAC 110-300-0160 addresses promoting diversity

<b style=”color: var(–bb-body-text-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>2. They want to promote diversity in a positive way, whether it’s<b style=”color: var(–bb-body-text-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”> by having songs in a different language or having picture books in different languages. One strategy I noticed was a childcare offering Spanish classes. Parents would sign their child up for class taught by a Spanish-speaking teacher. They do not condone bias behavior or negative stereotypes.

Every family will have their own set of standards and expectations when it comes to their child’s upbringing. Our job is to welcome each child with open arms and an open mind, willing and ready to learn about them as an individual. Having diversity in the classroom truly teaches us new ways to incorporate their way of life into our learning. It is very important that we treat each family in an appropriate and equal manner. WAC 100-300-0160 States that an early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities.

When a child notices they feel like an outlier, it can be extremely intimidating, if not overwhelming. Not only through encouragement, but being an example to children is crucial for their development and understanding. Differences are not only accepted, but beautiful. The differences between species of trees or colors amongst families of fruit is something minor that represents the beauty found in nature because of the variation. But just like nature, people are different as well. We all share the same human existence, but through different lens, which is powerful and inspiring. Carrying this confidently through interactions with children is powerful, and I think it can allow for them to become more accepting of themselves amongst the changing environment. When kids embrace this message, their purity and beauty radiates, and they can carry this throughout their entire lives. There is a multitude of activities to practice how this looks, but being an example is the first step to creating this positive impact.

    1. The WACs are sections 0055 to section 0065 and section 0080 to 0085

2.The big messages that they give is that if you are going to include one culture, you must express multiculturalism. You also need to respect parents/guardians wishes, if they have a certain culture they expect you to respect that and do what is best for the child in order for that child to express themselves.

    • WAC 110-300-0160 says that early learning facilities must provide learning opportunities and experiences that are culturally and racially diverse in their activities, curriculums, and materials. This includes items around the classroom that don’t reinforce stereotypes, playing diverse music, and stepping in when biased or inappropriate behavior occurs.

WAC 110-300-0160 states that early childcare providers must provide learning opportunities that are culturally/ racially diverse in their curriculums, activities, and materials. Therefore being able to provide children with opportunities to give us an insight on their backgrounds and making sure all children are heard and make them appreciate their diversity even more. Making sure classrooms have books, toys, and pictures of different people of different background.

WAC 110-300-0160 states that early learning providers must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities through their curriculum activities and materials that represent the kids and families. These can include things like racially diverse dolls and music. The big messages that the WAC relates are that all children should feel represented and accepted, and that including these racially diverse learning opportunities will help do that.

We have to determine what is best for the child, and their individual strengths, characteristics and needs. Discuss with the parents and communicate their progress and help with their concerns.

would welcome the child to introduce about their family and culture by speech or art or Me book kind of things. I would also include other language rhymes/ songs during the circle time like Good morning song, Friends songs.
