I think it is important to follow a set schedule daily. ex) arrival, open play, art, recess, snack. If this is the morning schedule, following the schedule, but having different activities to engage with the children. If a child has chosen to do magnatiles, I could sit down and build with them. During art, to sit with and make sure they have help as needed. etc.

It is good to make sure children are excited about what they’re learning about. If teaching math or counting, use a fun song or game, and same with the alphabet.

I would ask them questions depending on where they are actively playing. In the block area ask them what the are building, where does the road end, what is at the end? Who do they think will use the road, etc. Or in the kitchen area, asking questions like what are you making? What are your favorite foods? etc.

There are numerous creative ways to engage children in active, meaningful learning. By incorporating project-based learning where children are passionate and interested about a particular subject, providing educational and fun games where children can laugh, learn social skills such as turn takin, arts and crafts that promote creativity and imagination, storytelling for their listening skills, imagination and drama for active participation; educators can create dynamic and enriching learning experiences for children that will motivate them to learn, and help them fall in love with learning.

Once you have created a relationship with the child you can more easily engage with them. Connection is the bases of learning. Then, you can provide purposeful work for the child to engage with, any time they can use hands on materials to learn is best.

A way to get them engaged in learning is by incorporating their interests. If you are aware that they like dinosaurs, you can create activities centered around that. Also ensuring that activities are hands on is a great way for students to stay excited.

    1. observing the children to see how they play and interact and come up with questions to talk with them about. Most the of time children just want someone to talk to so its important to be willing to listen. Then you would find out what they are interested in learning so you can base some lessons on that. Kids love to learn about the things that they are interested in.

    2. Another idea would be to put out a range of different activities to see what the kids gravitate to so that you can get an idea on what they like to learn about in that way.

To actively engage children in meaningful learning, a variety of creative approaches can be employed. Incorporating hands-on activities, educational games, and outdoor exploration stimulates curiosity and fosters direct experiences. Themed learning units, storytelling, and drama activities make lessons more captivating, while technology integration and educational field trips provide diverse learning opportunities. Cooking projects, art activities, and music and movement enhance learning by incorporating practical skills and creative expression. By tailoring activities to children’s ages and interests, educators can create an inviting and comfortable environment that promotes active, self-directed learning.

I think that by observing the children individually, you can then proceed to add a little bit of what everybody likes into group activities to get them to engage.

Right now we are learning about bread, so we have turned our dramatic play area into a bakery and coffee shop. While the kids are playing in there, we ask questions about what they are making and how they are making it. We let them be creative and lead the activity with their imagination.
