Engaging children in active, meaningful learning is about making it fun. Through hands-on activities, games, outdoor adventures, imaginative play, storytelling, music, technology, field trips, projects, and following their interests, learning becomes an exciting adventure they’ll love!

Some ways you can interact is asking student what they like to do in and out of school so you are able to come up with activities that make them excited and that are at a level that is challenging and not too easy

Giving student real choices in the classroom
    — having to do with the material they study, the assignments they complete, the peers with whom they work, and so on — can boost their engagement and motivation, allow them to capitalize on their strengths, and enable them to meet their individual learning needs

Great suggestion, Xiaoxiao! Providing stimulating toys and facilities can certainly spark children’s curiosity and encourage them to actively explore and learn.

ways to get children engaged and active into lessons or books is to find a topic the class is interested in. whenever im doing a math lesson i love to contribute food many kids of all ages love food so when lessons are being taught with it , it helps them catch on easily to the number and how it looks , how many there is. its very visual.

I first think we need to observe the child, based on reflecting our observation we can come up with creative ways for learning/engaging the child in an activity. Discovering Child’s area of interest, when the child needs help, the teacher come up with creative ways. I work with infants, I creatively sing with doing actions and movements for the songs. The child tends to move along with me during sthis activity. That is one example from my work.

You can try to incorporate all the intelligences into your teaching style to keep all students engages. While you can’t do this with every activity, a teacher can think about ways to incorporate visual, musical and kinesthetic learning for one part of the day and then possible interpersonal and intrapersonal learning for another activity. Use music and dance, visuals and social learning on a daily basis if you can.

Some creative ways to engage children in activities is by providing colorful materials and toys to play with. Making more interactive their activities and this will make them learn faster and be interested in what we are teaching them.

In my experience children love hands on learning ! sitting and talking can make anyone not want to engage ! When making lessons, add corresponding activities to engage their mind and want them to explore more. Let them get messy! showing them its okay to make mistakes and get messy can further develop courage to take risks and have fun with it rather than being scared to make a mistake.

Some creative ways to engage children are to ask them open ended questions about what they are doing, to make the lessons interactive with the children instead of just reading to them or showing them, we can have the children do hands-on activities to understand the content better, also singing and dancing is great, and knowing the child’s interests and incorporating those into lessons are highly practical.

Akiyo, your suggestions of open-ended questions, interactive lessons, hands-on activities, singing, dancing, and incorporating children’s interests are excellent for engaging meaningful learning. Great ideas!

Some activities that would get children to engage are doing activities at circle time like reading and asking the children thoughts in the process about story plot structure. Another way includes doing arts and crafts and having them explain to you what they’re making or what they’re coloring as sometimes it’s their feelings they color or their interests. Playing roles during specific activities such as pretend cooking, house dress up etc, with all the children and then having them explain to me who they are and what they’re doing

Be excited with them! Find new things you can do together that are new to both of you. This puts you both in a learning mindset and can help with joining them in their curiosity and having discussions rather than just information dumping on them which is hard to not do as an adult.

Educators can get children engaged in a number of creative ways. Asking questions can be a great place to start. For example, when learning about animals, you can ask the child questions about their experience with that animal “have you ever seen a butterfly? when?” “have you ever touched a cat? what does it feel like?”. You can engage children by showing enthusiasm in their interests and encorporating it into the lesson. For example, If they like trucks, you can read them a book about types of vehicles.

It is important to ask the children meaningful questions, and build off their answers. Letting them come up with their own ideas of how things work, and then explaining how they can be right, but there may be even more to what they think, is a good way to help development. Rather than just giving them solutions that only you personally think of. Letting them teach you certain things and then brainstorming your own thoughts into it can be extremely beneficial.
