Implementing sensory activities, music, movement, and topics/themes that interest the children in my care. Learning through play.
-
One way to get children to engage is to come up with group activities like planting or cooking. This way the children would get to interact with each other and cooperate.
-
Fowsiya, great idea! Group activities like planting and cooking promote interaction and cooperation among children. Good suggestion!

-
Great suggestion, Lataya! Showing genuine interest and asking open-ended questions can really engage children in meaningful activities.

MemberSeptember 12, 2024 at 8:17 pmTo get children engaged in activities and meaningful learning is to ask and model using descriptions about what you are doing. Asking a child how to play with something or asking them to help you play, this makes children feel heard and helps them explain their actions in words.
-
I engage children in meaningful learning with making their own experiment, talking in words that grasp their attention (I introduce new vocab, and give examples). when teaching something let students try it as you go.
-
Alejandra, your approach to engaging children in meaningful learning through hands-on experiments and interactive language use is excellent. Keep it up!

I think to get children engage is to ask question while they are playing, or to give them new ideas of how to play with whatever they are playing with and see what they do with that new idea. I think it is important to allow children to explore new interests on there own which in turn make them more curious.
-
Linda, great insight! Asking questions and introducing new play ideas can definitely engage children in meaningful learning experiences.

MemberSeptember 15, 2024 at 8:30 pmSome creative ways to engage children in active, meaningful learning include incorporating Hands-On Fun by allowing them to touch, build, and create with art supplies or science kits. Interactive Stories can make learning come alive through costumes, props, and acting. Outdoor Adventures such as nature walks, scavenger hunts, or outdoor games bring education into the natural world. Tech Time with fun, educational apps and games adds excitement to learning. Projects and Crafts involve children in hands-on activities like building, gardening, or performing plays. Finally, Choice Matters by giving kids the freedom to select some of their learning activities, which helps maintain their interest and enthusiasm.

Great suggestions, Sulekho! Hands-on activities, interactive stories, outdoor adventures, tech time, projects, crafts, and choice are all excellent ways to engage children in active learning. Well done!

Some creative ways to get children engaged in learning can be planting and using recycled bags and string to make kites. Children can germinate their own seeds in a bag with a wet paper towel and discuss how it looks like and why it grows until it is planted in soil. For plastic/paper bag kites, we can discuss and explore different ways to make kites, tie the rope so it’ll catch air, or what they need to do so the kite can fly such as run or walk. We can also discuss weather conditions and so on.
-
Noung, fantastic ideas! Engaging children in hands-on activities like kite-making and seed germination is both educational and fun.

Circle time, arts and crafts activities, and story time are some ways to engage children in learning.
-
Allowing it to be interactive and allowing for serve and return moments. Not only with you and your students but between children, they can learn from each other.
