I like to start by seeing where their interest and curiosity lies. I will extend their learning by asking questions and modeling other ways to play. New materials and toys or things that move always get children interested.

Creating activities that are of interest to the children in your care by also incorporating your lesson plan. Asking thought provoking questions as well and having a fun attitude to get the children to engage in the activity. As well as having hands on learning activities, something the kids have to touch and create while learning what you are teaching.

– Transitioning from one area to another, physical movement.- Showing them what is going to be worked on and introducing it in a tone that catches their attention- Asking for help, a lot of children like to help the teacher out- Ask engaging questions that connect to the activity

Giving them choice, adding movement, using projects, games, or role-play, and connecting lessons across subjects all make learning meaningful. Mixing indoor and outdoor activities, technology, and reflection helps keep it dynamic and personal.
-
Great insights, Caitlyn! Your emphasis on hands-on, playful learning and real-life connections truly enhances engagement and retention.

Some creative ways to engage children in active, meaningful learning include hands-on activities, role-playing, and experiments that let them explore and problem-solve. Incorporating movement into lessons, like acting out stories, dancing to music, or scavenger hunts, helps children learn while staying active. Using interest centers with open-ended materials, like blocks, art supplies, or sensory bins, allows children to make choices and follow their curiosity. Even outdoor play can be a learning opportunity, with activities like nature walks, gardening, or building projects that encourage exploration and teamwork.

Great insights, Marcy! Your suggestions for active learning through exploration and movement are truly inspiring and effective!

MemberSeptember 30, 2025 at 5:48 amI think the best way to get children engaged in meaningful learning is by connecting activities to their interests and making learning hands-on. When children can explore, question, and create through play, projects, or group activities, they stay curious and involved. Using stories, art, movement, and real-life experiences keeps it active and fun while also helping them build social skills and confidence.

MemberSeptember 30, 2025 at 8:06 pmI like to choose topics to learn based on what I know the kids like, or to ask them what types of things they want to learn about, this helps maintain their focus and engagement since its based on things they really like. Also having a balance of teaching time with active hands on learning time is good.
-
Great insights, Riley! Tailoring topics to children’s interests and balancing teaching with hands-on activities enhances engagement and learning.

Creative ways to get children engaged in active, meaningful learning are by asking meaningful questions and adding information to extend children’s learning. Meaningful questions invite children to wonder, and to respond with more than a simple “yes” or “no.” Questions can help them learn to solve problems and think critically about what they are engaged in. This also allows the child to begin to problem solve, think creatively and engage more fully in their environment

Great insights, Teopprecil! Your emphasis on meaningful questions truly fosters critical thinking and deeper engagement. Keep it up!
