Yes, let the children have ownership in their day. Thank you.

I think getting to know the child’s interests and preparing activities based off of that is very important to help the child keep engaged. For example, if you have a child interested in vehicles you can prepare all sorts of learning activities with vehicle props, like counting cars, lining them up, making patterns, building a garage, etc.

For our healthy food unit we read books about healthy food, sang songs about healthy food and made graphs of healthy food. We brought in colorful salad ingredients and set up a small group table with cutting boards and table knifes. Two teachers sat with the children as they cut up the lettuce and various vegetables. We then served the salad family style. The kids loved making their own salad!

first, I would take time to get to know their likes/dislikes. figure out if they learn by doing, seeing, alone, or in teams. if they learn by doing, come up with a hands-on activity to get everyone involved. if they like working alone, give the class some time to work on what they need and share at the end of class.

MemberMarch 31, 2023 at 5:35 pmA way to creatively engage children in active and meaningful learning is to ask them questions about the activity at hand. This promotes a better understanding of different parts of the child’s world. It’s also important to provide a variety of activities that stimulate learning and exploration in a way that is developmentally appropriate for the age range you’re working with.

One of the ways that you can get children engaged in what they are learning is by getting to know them better and incorporate their interests in what they are learning. For example, if you have a child who really likes dinosaurs, you could find a math game that practices counting to 5 with dinosaurs.
