Observing and documenting children’s learning environments allows the educator to collect information and get a picture over time of that child’s development and progress. It helps identify patterns, areas of strengths, areas of need. It also helps document the learning of the group and identify social patterns that help or disadvantage particular children. It gives information to inform future planning and action. It is what allows the planning cycle to move forward.
