MemberSeptember 23, 2022 at 6:59 pmChild First Always is a principle that honors and protects all children. This includes keeping them away from harm in all scenarios and is part of the ethical responsibility of the Lead.
However, it is also the responsibility of the Lead to not make and present assumptions that are going to be critically damaging to the individual. Studying and commitment to antibias and antiracist principles is the most just-driven approach to ensure providers are knowledgable with complete information.

MemberSeptember 24, 2022 at 4:36 pmI want to protect my students to the best of my ability, which this question really difficult to answer. If I suspected abuse or neglect, I would report it to the supervisor, for clarification on exactly what the policy is, and to make sure that they are on the same page about my concerns. Then I would report it to the state of my concerns.
I choose to do it this way, because I have reported issues in my career, and it did not end well.

Child first always is the principle that I abide by. Therefore if I suspected a child of being abused I would first notify my lead to see if the lead has noted that this child is being abused. I would then notify the head of school and then CPS.
-
I would bring it up to my supervisor, document everything & contact CPS.

I would bring it up to my lead teacher to see if it is a viable concern because she has been in the classroom for over 20 years. We would then see if we should escalate it to administration, who would then help us contact CPS. Since I work in a toddler class, I’m not sure if directly asking the child will get us any information.

MemberOctober 17, 2022 at 5:21 pmIf I suspect a child is abused or neglected I would first check with my superior about the correct steps to take in case there are specific actions that I must also do. Next I would immediately contact CPS and make a report. I wouldn’t inform the parents. If I know the child is in immediate danger, I would immediately contact the local law enforcement after contacting CPS.
-
I would probably talk to the child if the child can communicate and bring this issues to the supervisor attention and do the next neccessary.
-
Please be sure to check with your supervisor and program protocol before speaking to a child unless you have been specifically trained to interview children.

If I were to suspect possible forms of abuse or neglect, I would talk with my lead teacher to see if they have noticed any of the same things I have. I would then make a report and document what I saw/heard and what was reported to keep it on file and record.

MemberNovember 11, 2022 at 6:07 amI thought the child was being abused or neglected I reported to my boss which is the director and report it to the state.
-
I would make sure to follow all the steps. I would make sure to keep a level head as to be more believable.
-
as a mandated reporter I would have to call and report the child abuse
-
I would speak with my director first to get another opinion. If it is agreed there is reasonable suspicion, I would call CPS and report right away.
-
If I notice that a child is being mistreated at home, then first I will inform the director about it, then I will talk to the child, and if there are very serious problems, we will report it to the CPS
